Something Sunny Branches Into Greeting Cards
Something Sunny owner, Caitlin Bigelow, had her holiday sale on Thursday, December 2. With a higher customer base and more followers on her Facebook page, the current Juniata student saw sales skyrocket to the point where she was savaging around her work area to find any available frame. “I never expected (the holiday sale) to be this big! There is no way my sales forecast is going to be right,” said Bigelow.
Caitlin sold a total of 35 frames all within a seven-hour span. Her marketing strategy included advertisements through flyers and Facebook messages, setting up a stand in Ellis Hall during lunch as a display and then reeling in all the customers during dinner-time. As Caitlin pointed out that day, “I had so many people coming at one time, I had to quickly chicken scratch their transactions and move to the next person.”
Many of the artist’s admirers also requested a signature on everything they bought. In anticipation that the sunflower frames will turn into a popular commodity, many students jumped to be one of the first customers.
December 2nd also saw the launch of Caitlin’s newest greeting card product. This was her market test that saw very positive reviews on design, price and demand. She makes the greeting cards by stenciling a design with pen and paper, then scanning her sketch onto the computer, and finally using design art programs to make the final draft.
“I definitely love doing these cards because they were different, and people said they really liked the designs.” The new product sells for $15.99 per batch of 20 cards, with a few different drawings created by Caitlin.
With her fiscal year coming to a close, the former soccer standout has begun to wrap up her sales for the holidays and take a small break back home in San Diego, California, coming back regrouped and ready for more orders to fill in the new year. “I am ready to come back, get dates set up, talk to stores, talk to everyone and continue on and see where it takes me,” exclaimed Caitlin.
All of Something Sunny’s products can be found in the new and improved website www.somethingsunny.com. There is also a PayPal setup to add a secure and quick way to get customer orders processed.
